Applications of Metabolomics Technology in Clinical Medicine

Image
Metabolomics is a newly developed subject following genomics and proteomics. It analyzes the relationship between metabolites and physiological as well as  pathological changes in humans through accurate qualitative and quantitative quantification  of small molecule metabolites (50~1,500 Da) in human body , in order to  study the occurrence and development of diseases, find biomarkers of diseases, and to predict the prognosis of diseases. Metabolomics has  broad prospects in clinical diagnosis. There are four  main application s, application in clinical diagnosis (Biomarker), research and application in etiology and pathological mechanism, clinical diagnosis,  etiology and pathological mechanism study, clinical medication guidance and preclinical animal model screening. Application in Clinical D iagnosis In gener al, un targeted metabolomics  tech niques are firstly used to compare all metabolites in the control and experimental groups and find their difference s.  Targete
